Just curious what you all think of having a yearly members tournament... Be happy to put it together with some needed help and expertise...
Best!
Not a bad idea—always enjoy a good tournament.

@panzer-lehr well I've planted a seed that was common here in TFGM 1.0 and I was not a part of that awesome and now I'd like to re start it to be part of it...
Good to hear—if it gets organized well, I’m sure you’ll get interest.

@panzer-lehr well this is the membership interest phase and I'll go from there... I'll hit you up for support big brother from another mother!
Is this something thats in the works? Sounds fun.

If you need people to play in a Combat Mission 2 tourney … I’m your huckleberry.
I'd even dust of the uniform and climb back into action.
I have a movie project starting soon but will dig deeper into the concept and start sourcing maps etc....
Would be good to see a CM2 tournament on the FGM again.
I used to run quite a few of them back in the day. 😎
Could trawl the archives for some ideas and suggestions.

What title are we thinking ?
Imho CMCW is the ‘right’ title as it represents the pinnacle of CM2.
Frankly, I was not here for the early days and I would love to commit elder abuse on some of you fossils. 😉
I can reach out to Slysniper and help him get some credentials here as he runs a superior competitive format. Last I checked, he is frustrated logging in here. Our CMBS tournament was on the original TFGM.
Imho, tournament competition makes for the best games.
Did the FGM also do historical team games as well? Using maps with hex’s, with battles played in CM?

I've reached out to One Ping Only to kindly ask for his assistance with this idea as he seems to have a very good handle and experience in putting an idea like this together...
As well I'm considering multiple ideas of what and how this tournament will look like such as 1 on 1 scenarios then maybe finish with 2 vs 2 players on a larger map to finish off etc...
I do miss the old ladder system we used to have even though I understand it was a lot of work to manage... I do think it encouraged more pbem matches...
Best too all! I'm going to keep you all posted as things progress I also understand that not all participants have every version or title of the games available but that will be part of the fun putting it together...
Best!
Sounds awesome! Appreciate you putting time into this.
A ladder system would be great.
If there is anything I can do to chip in let me know.

Instead of the FIFA World Cup how about the FIF World Cup.... Fortress Italy FGM 😆 . (I couldn't think of something relevant that began with 'A.' Others will have better ideas 😉 .
Kidding aside, happy to let @thegreatwhitenorth drive this bus.
From my past experience (although the nature of the player base has changed somewhat) I'd suggest smaller, short battles that allow for quick turnover of results and keep things moving (with tight, ruthless rules about turn rate). If a tournament takes 9 - 10 months to finish, interest will flag and players will inevitably drop out and the whole thing fizzle out.
One of my favourite formats I ran for FGM years back was the TTT -- the Tag Team Tournament.
Players sign up in teams of two.
Each round they play a small, quick custom-built scenario against an opposing team, where one player plays Allied, the other Axis against the equivalent opponents on the other team.
Results are then added up across both battles -- higher total score wins.
This way the scenarios don't have to be balanced and can be quite fun & creative -- and players can interact and share intel/suggestions etc.

@rico 's King of the Hill and Byte Battles were great!
Agreed that tourney battles CAN'T be >30 minutes and 20 minutes may be more ideal, which also means they need to be TINY or maybe Small, at the outside.
Agreed that best mirror match total score is probably the best for an elimination tournament without the tourney leader having to worry and playtest too much for balance. SlySniper's total points over multiple battles vs. the "curve" is the other best method.
Great idea mate, I would be more than happy to support.
Also interested.
I'd be interested too.
