Anyone familiar with Exercise Tiger? It was a practice run for the Utah Beach invasion in April 1944. German E-boats discovered the exercise and launched an attack, resulting in nearly 750 American casualties - significantly more than the roughly 200 lost on Utah Beach itself during D-Day. Thanks for posting, Boss. Much enjoyed the video. One of the truly unfortunate SNAFU's of the war. Those E-boats were a handful.
Interesting one — and it’s a good reminder that even late in the war the Channel was still dangerous water. The E-boats don’t always get the attention they deserve because they operated in the shadows, but they were fast, aggressive, and very effective when they caught convoys at the wrong moment.
What stands out to me is how quickly things went wrong once confusion set in — friendly recognition issues, night fighting, mixed formations… all the little things that turn into big problems under combat conditions. Shows how even the Allies, with all their growing advantages, were still learning hard lessons right up to D-Day.
