A most excellent military historian, this man made some of the very best military documentaries, including War Walks ( see below), a brilliant 3 part one about Wellington as well.
I bought one of his books from a charity shop in Worcester and was amazed to find it had been signed by the man himself.
Holmes was excellent at putting you on the ground with the soldiers rather than just talking strategy. His Waterloo and Western Front episodes really changed how I thought about terrain and decision-making.
