Doing my part to support the tournament once again... from the comfort of my recliner. 😎⚽🍺 Brazil vs. Morocco has my attention today, but Scotland making their first World Cup appearance in decades against Haiti should be special too. Here's hoping for a few more thrillers like the USA match!

USA looks like they gained a bit of respect with their win over Paraguay. Well done lads. 😍

An interesting fact I read today:
The only player from Curaçao born in the country is Tahith Chong.
While the vast majority of his teammates were born in different cities in the Netherlands and represent Curaçao thanks to their family roots, Chong was born in Willemstad, the country's capital.

This is why I love the World Cup. It's not always about the giants. Scotland finally ending a 36-year wait for a World Cup win, Cape Verde holding Spain to a draw in their tournament debut, Curaçao making history just by qualifying—these are the stories that stick with you long after the trophy is handed out. ⚽🍻

Norway won 4–1. Fun match to watch. The highlight for me was the Norwegian fans doing that Viking ship rowing chant in the stands — thousands of people rowing in unison with the whole “huh, huh, huh” thing. Pretty awesome.

Messi today. 🎩⚽⚽⚽
A hat trick on the biggest stage, becoming the first player ever to appear in six World Cups and tying the all-time World Cup scoring record. From being the youngest Argentine ever to score in a World Cup in 2006 to now becoming the oldest Argentine ever to score on football's biggest stage, Messi just keeps rewriting history. Some careers are measured in statistics. Messi's is measured in moments that generations of fans will never forget. The GOAT. 🐐🇦🇷⚽🏆

⚽🇵🇹 Portugal probably expected a comfortable opener, but DR Congo clearly had other ideas, battling to a surprising 1–1 draw and making Group K a lot more interesting. Ronaldo got his World Cup underway, but Portugal will feel like they left two points on the table. 🏴⚽ England, meanwhile, looked every bit a contender, rolling past Croatia 4–2 behind a Kane brace and another commanding performance from Bellingham. If today's matches were any indication, England is announcing itself as a threat, while Portugal suddenly has some questions to answer. 🌍🏆

Countries that once seemed winnable are now not so much and must be viewed with caution. 🧐

@Louis Kansas City was good for Messi, my friend.  What a performance.  Too bad Argentina can't play all their matches in Arrowhead.  I ran into a young Argentinian fan at work yesterday, and I looked at him and just said "Messi".   His eyes lit up, he got a big smile, and said "MESSI" with all the enthusiasm he could muster.  Great game, great player!  Really cool to have all the World Cup fans in town.  I did get to see the English team bus being escorted to their hotel by the police motorcycle escort.  You can't walk the path next to the lake next to the hotel; they have it blocked off around the hotel, but they added an air-conditioned event tent abutting the outdoor patio.  Lots of locals who live around the complex have "Good luck, England" and the "Three Lions" signs in their yards.  Lawrence, Kansas, has embraced the Algerian fans and the team.  I think the world is figuring out the US isn't as bad as the world press portrays.  We are a melting pot, for Pete's sake.

There have been journalists in Kansas for two weeks now. And of course, all the TV channels are showing different customs, neighborhoods, places of recreation, and just about anything you can think of about your city. Sometimes I wonder if one of the people on TV is you, 😆 . It's a really beautiful city; my only worry is the weather. It seems like storms are always lurking. But I could handle it. 🤗

⚽️ Interesting day. 🇨🇦 Canada and 🇨🇭 Switzerland grabbed the headlines with the big scorelines, but 🇲🇽 Mexico may have had the most important result. They weren't flashy, they weren't dominant, they just got another win and now sit on six points without conceding a goal. That's the kind of team that tends to sneak up on people in tournaments. ⚽️

Meanwhile 🇨🇦 Canada and 🇨🇭 Switzerland both looked like teams that have gone from "happy to be here" to "nobody wants to draw us in the knockout rounds." 👀

Feels like we're starting to separate the contenders from the tourists. 🌎🏆⚽️
