@rico No. I did look into it but it turned out to be a bit impractical for my situation and not worth the effort or cost
for what happens just 1-2 times a year. Besides, if I fixed it I wouldn't be able to bitch about it to FGM.

Amazing you know, USA always seems to be up front with thing's @nort what's the situation with Wind farms and solar in America I haven't seen any stories on this subject, I believe there's not a lot of belief in global warming ?@rico It's crazy that anyone would need that type of setup in sunny California. It is just that the local power company (Pacific Gas & Electric) is so corrupt and inept, and the State of California is aggressively attacking all fossil fuels before there is sufficient electric infrastructure to serve the current needs, that they cannot keep power running to customers when there is just a little rain.

A couple of years ago when there was a lot of trouble with irregular electricity supply, we installed solar on our house and never looked back (also was necessary as both my wife and I work from home) -- we're not off the grid as such, but it made life a lot easier (and it's cheaper)

Yeah I got solar panels installed too... not much sunlight this far north but apparently it works better if its not direct sunlight? Who would have guessed? (or was that a cheap marketing ploy?)
