Ottoman soldiers man the trenches at Gallipoli, 1915—defending the Dardanelles in a hard-fought campaign that halted the Allied advance and became a defining moment for the Ottoman war effort.

Ottoman infantry advance from a trench position during the Gallipoli campaign, 1915

Pure adrenaline in a moment like that. So far removed from what we see on TV today in the fighting in Ukraine or Iraq. 😯

This is definitely not Ottoman infantry. This can be easily established just by looking at the helmets of the men  and the cap of the officer in the middle of the

photo.

In fact, these are men of the  British Royal Naval Division in the Gallipoli theater.

Check the link for more info.

@fgmbootie  that might be a good idea for your next project 🙂

Good catch — right battle, wrong side on that one. Gallipoli, yes, but not Ottoman troops. I’ve pulled it and set it straight. Much appreciated.

Ottoman artillery crew with a field gun during the First World War

I hate to be  a party pooper but these are Serbian artillerist.

They are wearing the  šajkača the typical military hat of the Serbs of that period.

You can check the link below for more info.

Good catch — Misidentified it as Ottoman from my source when it’s clearly Serbian, especially with the šajkača caps. I will move it. Appreciate the correction 👍
