One of the most horrible features of war is that all the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting.

Every time that I start one of these battles I find that part of my army has already been chosen for me.  Out of 1600 pts. or 1200 pts. a third or more of the points are used and there are already some units on the map.  I would not have chosen some of these units but they are impossible to get rid of.

Is there any way around this?

No, alas, that’s just how the game works.

Those pre-chosen units aim at reflecting the historical key characteristics of the army list in question, i.e., units that historically have been an integral part of the army on a permanent basis, and therefore should be present in all battles to different degrees and with the specified minimums. Still with the possibility to select more of them.

How are everybody's battles going? ... mine vs @cargol in Aquitaine is well into the bashing each other's heads in... he got gifted two woods nicely covering his flanks... so it's head-on and ugly. 😆 Already down one leader and some of my knights are proving worryingly fragile. 🤨

Well, in Aquitaine, @cargol and I are bashing each other heads in ... it's a brutal attritional brawl and there won't be much left standing when we're done here.

The brawl in AQUITAINE has ended in a Minor Victory (66 - 45 = +21%) for the Counts of Toulouse -- the province will be Under Siege next turn.

A brutal fight of attrition against @cargol  - despite losing nearly all my foot men at arms, I managed to narrowly prevail in the end -- the battle was a MUCH closer affair than the final score reflects.

Yes, it can be a wonky system.

I did the turn and sent it back.

Exchanges of bolts. And now the first melee contact: it all now begins!

Earl of Grey and I are on turn 25.

The game has ended with 44% casualties for Earl of Grey and 17% for Otosan, with a 27% difference.  Thanks for the game Earl.  The English knights seemed much more fragile than the French knights in impact and melee.
