If you have ever played board wargames in the pre-computer era (are you that old?) or later, what is your favourite and the largest that you've completely played through?

For me:

Favourite: Avalon Hill's Kingmaker

Largest: SPI''s Wellington's Victory

Carpe vitam.

Avalon Hill’s Panzer Leader and PanzerBlitz.  We used to put all of the units on the board and go for it.

My mother-in-law bought me Axis and Allies 1941.  Will be hooking up with a mate to give it a go over Xmas with a few beers.  Is it worth my time or is it rubbish?

@fgmbootie  - very basic “beer & pretzels” game. 😀 — but should be fun.

I played A&A as a teenager, wow, what memories this brings back! Great game (then). As Rico says: a very casual game, not complex strategy. But fun (at least when I was 17-18). Will make you feel young again.

I loved these two games:

1. War and Peace (can now be found as a computer game: Napoleon's Eagles).

2. Imperium Romanum II. Great map and 30+ scenarios on Roman warfare, from Marius against Sulla to the Reconquest of Justinian.

Not so much into board gaming today but, when I was in high school ( ooooo so long ago ) a friend of mine was into the

Dungeons and Dragons, which I enjoyed and the Avalon Hill's games. The one's I remember were Squad Leader and Panzer

Blitz. We'd spend hours after school playin' either and havin' a blast !

@nathangun I do not know.  All I know is both those games have over 2000 counters and I don't think I have a room big enough in my house to set up all the maps for the campaign game.

I really like the look of this game, the art work is amazing and the game it's self has some good mechcanics. I think you'd like it @rico

Terrible Swift Sword. This is easily my favorite and biggest board game. I had it set up on a plywood table with a plexiglass cover.

I even made battle flags for the CSA Corps and the Union divisions. It looked seriously cool! This was circa 1978 so unfortunately I don't have any pictures.

@fgmbootie You should really like it. It looks easy, and it is to play. However, you have soo much flexibility with tactics and strategy

it never gets boring or repetitive. Yeah, was one of my favorites. 😍

@fgmbootie I try to still play D&D.  I have the 5th edition rules.
