Throughout the Second World War, on all sides of the conflict, Elite troops time and again risked their lives and freedom to strike at the enemy when and where they least expected. Join us in this feature length video, as we follow in the footsteps of the men of Combined Operations, uncover the detail behind those famous fights and recount the stories that to many have gone down as the Greatest raids of WW2.
Here is a slightly more extensive exploration of the Raid on St Nazaire, including actual interviews with some of the survivors.

If I had to pick one that always sticks with me, it would probably be Operation Anthropoid.
Not a classic “raid” in the naval commando sense, but the courage involved was on another level — small team, deep in occupied territory, going after one of the most heavily protected men in the Nazi hierarchy. It’s one of those operations that shows just how far special operations were willing to go to make a strategic and symbolic impact.
What makes it stand out for me is the human cost that followed as well — it reminds you that these missions were never clean or simple, even when they succeeded.
