I saw this yesterday and thought it was great.
Sure, the casting has (on paper) a few head-scratchers but it's not a fully faithful recreation of Homer's poem - and for that, I think we should be thankful. It's Christopher Nolan's unique take. I'm a big Nolan fan and I think he knocked it out of the park with this one. He leans quite a bit into horror and body horror territory. The action sequences - including the fall of Troy filmed entirely by torchlight - are riveting. There's been criticism of some of the uniforms, kit, and such (Agamemnon's, for example), but it is actually all in service of theme and character. Some great choices in how the gods are pictured, and a lot is left to your interpretation.
Overall, it reminded me of old epics from before CGI.
Easy Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway) noms for this one.
