Ok... I decided to take the plunge. I have them on disk but havent had them installed since forever. Installing CMBO now. 🙂
Sure did. Very happy about it.
Too bad they screwed up the new WASD key support, but my muscle memory for CMx1 is coming back.
Hey W A S D doesnt work on mine... I have to use the arrows and the numpad!

You have to press one of the function keys, I think F2, to get to the menu to switch the key layout.
Unfortunately they screwed it up, activating WASD disables the "Target" command (even the right-click path).
I will stick with the on screen controls then.
I still have all my CM1 CDs but I have to use my old laptop to play them as the Mac version only ran on MacOS 9 and not on the current MacOS X and newer.
I have the CMx1 Barbarossa to Berlin version from GOG. It’s not the same as the Steam version, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be updated. GOG’s policy is to keep games as close to the original as possible while making them compatible with modern systems, so I guess if I want to take advantage of the higher-resolution update and the WASD controls, I’ll have to pay again. But hey! I really shouldn’t complain — going out for dinner costs more and lasts a lot less than the hours you can end up spending playing Combat Mission.
Are there still any mod repositories out there somewhere...? I'm not sure if I kept my mod folders and the disks I burned those decades ago (indeed!) have long ceased to exist... 😆
I somehow missed that thread - thank you very much! Could indeed be fun to boot those up again... 😎
What's the name of the member that used to organize and run CMX1 tourneys? I played in a couple of his toruneys and wondered if he had made to the new site? Was his handle Sentai?
Yes sir I did and boy I'm happy, loving the nostalgia and just found my CMBB mods, fun days ahead.

Yep +1
I miss the raging fires in the woods and buildings. 🔥🌲

LOL... I totally forgot about that part!
CM1 geek nostalgia moment 😎 — one of my all-time favorite features was the “plane killer” moments… when your lonely AA gun or even a desperate MG team suddenly lights up the sky and actually drops an aircraft.

One thing I’m remembering is how the game would sometimes just end when the system determined the fight was effectively over. Not because the clock ran out… just because the battle was clearly decided.
Between low ammo, collapsing morale, and the overall battlefield situation, CM1 often felt like it understood when things had reached their natural conclusion. No chasing the last scattered squad around the map for ten more turns — the game just said, “Yep… this is done.”
I always thought that was a really smart design choice, and part of what made CM1 feel so smooth and believable. Kind of wish modern CM titles leaned a little more into that again. Anyone else remember this or miss it?

I got it a while back -- haven't got round to playing much yet -- but time to kick the tyres and go on a nostalgic panzer road trip. 🙂
One of the most horrible features of war is that all the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting.
