I find that I am pretty crap at house clearing.
Any suggestions for doing this without getting your lads slaughtered?

I'm no expert here but I have my fair share of frustration doing it... This might turn into a run on sentence so my apologies...

To begin there are 2 sets of usual conditions regarding building clearing. One being dense urban areas large towns and cities and the other small pockets of buildings like small farm towns etc... I will not differentiate between the two and just mention how I try deal with it.

The following are not listed in any particular order and I'm sure someone more qualified and experienced than me will chime in and add to this topic.

- Use indirect and direct fire to suppress the known or suspected enemy positions along your chosen route of advance. On/Off Map Mortars or larger calibers will suppress the enemy while you close the range of engagement and allow you to find suitable firing positions. I find even 81mm mortars will do the trick and they are cost effective and have good ammo amounts. HE chuckers from armour also will make residing in a building unpleasant. Using smoke to cross streets comes in handy when wanting to move without getting chewed up crossing an active prepared kill zone. Having engineers with satchel charges are great to access buildings from sides with no doors or to access another part of a building. Snipers are great at spotting and if well placed can give you a slight edge. Another concept is attacking from more than one angle so if one unit gets suppressed  the other unit can lay down fire from another angle. Anything full auto is going to help you in close quarters, the Grand is great against the Kar 98 but as soon as full auto gets in the picture things change fast.

U.S. flame throwers are fun if used correctly and have a good range. Bazooka teams with direct fire orders can also be fun!

I also love using AA vehicles to shoot at buildings, the sheer volume of incoming rounds is something to see....

Hope this finds you well!

Best!

To begin...

Good tips there (though ISU-152 wins the argument), cheers.

Do breaching charges have any suppression effect on the occupants?

@gurakn Yah the ISU-152 is great if your playing CMRT and it doesn't get picked off... And yes there is a lot of suppression effects if they survive the blast...

Breaching charges are literally, 'da bomb' in urban contexts.
They certainly help in those situations where the door isn't on the near side of the building. I have learned to my dismay that my wee truppen will happily make a long jaunt out into a road on the enemy side of the building rather than just jumping through a convenient and safe window.

Unfortunately, engineers tend to be in shorter supply than one might like...

Generally you dont want to enter the buildings as others have mentioned, if you can help it its best to level the building if you have the means to do so and the conditions allow it.

Entering is always risky, its close range and even an untrained unmotivated force can win or cause a lot of losses. Especially if there are connected block that you cant supress, in that situation you want as many bodies in that building as possible but its a gamble and has to be a last resort. you really need to flank and supress the whole block. 82mm mortars wont do any much harm to them  generally but they will keep their heads down while you manouvere or it will help to achive fire superiority

dont be afraid to supress the building with small arms fire as your guys enter, they wont take losses from them. i think they will get supressed only ifthe shooting unit cant see them? at least i think thats how it works. Anything under autocannpn caliber wont harm friendly units so feel free to sprey away while you assault.

Most importantly pray to R.N.Jesus before you breach. Lastly i just wanna share a funny thing that happend, my guy breach and cleared with a nade while he was in the same building as the enemy, wasnt the sharpest tool in the shed.
