@Opo, i would love you to do one of these organised tracked campaigns for an exciting entity like a Stug Kompanie or Hvy Pz unit on the eastern front, or a CCA/CCB of a US armoured division in the west or a  British tank company like the Sherwood Rangers/Northants Yeomanry etc and follow them through a series of actions trying to complete missions and survive as a unit. Think that would be ace and add even more dimension to a CM mini campaign as you would build a personal attachment to the warriors under your command.

@guardsman Tell me more. This would still be PvP with both sides using the same “fixed OOB” Core units over multiple battles not on the same map? What do you see being different from the games on the current menu? (Don’t take the question the wrong way - just want to understand so I can build stuff that people want to play! 🙂 ).

I always love the idea of having people play with non-meta units. StuG brigade sounds the most interesting out of your interesting options.

I’ve got enough historical info to probably build a PvP series of a JPz Kompanie vs a T-34 or Emcha company facing off in Hungary.

@onepingonly yes,Stug brigade would be my favourite too. A ww2 fan favourite yet an underdog v most armour it had to face off against and would take a wiley commander to succeed in many missions, so a good challenge. Whether CM's foibles would do it justice is another matter.

Yes same fixed OOB core over multiple maps/battles.

But you also raise an interesting point, how would you pit opposition against it? You would kind of need two opponents for different battles, maybe an infantry and an armoured commander? or guess just a single commander with access to different forces for different maps/missions. Likewise you could give the Stug commander 'assets' in the form of an infantry company that needs to hold a village and you are his support for example, or you are the rearguard whilst other units retire to the rear, or trying to punch through to encircled forces etc.

Same principles for a stug unit could be applied to a Soviet SU battery or US TD company or German JPZ unit (especially late war trying to stem the tide!).

Your Hungarian scenario sounds good 🙂

@guardsman hey mate, this might be a pain but my file is bugged. I can't enter a password or do anything when I get to that initial screen.

I've never seen this before but if you take your turn again to see if will fix it? Happy to discuss further if you've had this issue before.

@deadpanic did you try downloading it again from Dropbox? think i had similar once a few years back. Maybe a manual download from db if you know what i mean. Think on a rare occasion a file can get corrupted in the upload/download. I have dropped the file back on db manually my end as well.

Guess the ai couldnt handle the shear sophistication of my orders 😆 ...ie drive down that bloody road and see if somebody shoots at you!  😀

@guardsman I tried again with no luck, it's really strange. I can't hit cancel or ok either.

@guardsman   I have some current mini-campaigns that are fixed OOB but on the same map and in a short period of time (Vierville, Sicily). But I am hearing do it on different maps over a longer period of time. It sounds like a CM Campaign with Core units, but with PvP enabled. The biggest problem would be finding a "plot" that involves the same units for both players - or just forego one side having consistent Coe units.

I'm fleshing out the Komarno/Komarom (Hungary) idea. Core German units would be Pz-Abt 208 w/ 1 Kompanie of Jpz IV 70(A) and 1 Kompanie of Pz IV, supported by Infantry and misc supports. Core Soviet units would be 22 Guards Tank Brigade with T-34/85, supported by Motor Rifle battalion(s). The actual battle was fought over ~3 days in Jan 1945, and I might be able to stretch that onto 3 maps. It's still a short-term battle vs spanning months or years of war.

Let me know if that is of interest.

@onepingonly sounds great and would be a tough challenge for sure. Not quite my humble Stug, but still a tricky non-meta beast to master.

Do think you might have to allow a bit of flexibility on soft factors like experience as expect a 'regular' jpz would be blind and dead meat in no time against agile T34/85's. Maybe crews could gain experience as they survive each encounter 🙂

@guardsman The real battle was won by the Germans (barely). As usual, German training appears to have been a factor. Also - poor leadership of Soviets, relative absence of artillery, and not enough Soviet infantry. My intent would be to include all these problems. The Soviets had similar problems to other battles in which their armor outran combined arms. The ground will also be very very open - not great infantry country in any case.

@onepingonly I am down to get the Vierville game against Stoneage's americans going. The Hungary/Komarno scenario also sounds interesting to me, though, especially as the German side

@bleskaceq and @stoneage : I just set up a Dropbox with the first turn for Vierville - which is for StoneAge to enter the password I sent via PM. I also invited both of you to side-specific Dropboxes which contain the briefing, a side-specific campaign map, and the Force Tracker for tracking casualties (which I will do).

Let me know if you have any questions, and...enjoy!

@bleskaceq and @onepingonly I have sent a intro PM to Bleskaceq and should get this "Mini Campaign" started tonight.  I hate it when work gets in the way of gaming.  Only eight hours more to go!  onepingonly I can not put in words how much I appreciate what you are doing for us.

@onepingonly @stoneage Hate to throw a spanner in the works, but the sides appear to be flipped. When I opened my first file, I was in control of American units 😬
