This is about two video topics: 1. How to solve the Blurry Fonts problem which is occasionally experienced and 2. How to get the best video settings for your CM title.
Acknowledgement. This is not my original presentation. If I remember correctly, I found this topic both on the old FGM site and on Steam forums.
1. HOW TO SOLVE THE BLURRY FONTS PROBLEM.
What is this? Occasionally after a system upgrade the CM's fonts go blurry. This is because the upgrade has redirected your game's video away from your video card to the inherent intel video controller on your motherboard.
The fix for NVidia systems:
go to NVidia Control Panel / 3D Settings / Manage 3D Settings / Preferred Graphics Processor:
select High-Performance NVIDIA processor
goto Tab: Program Settings
1. select the program to cusomize (Add)
2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program (High-Performance NVIDIA processor)
3. Specify the settings for this program
(a) Anisotropic filtering - 16x
(b) Antialiazing Mode - Override any application setting
(c) Texture FIltering Anisotropic Sample Opti... OFF
(d) Texture Filtering Negative LOD bias - Clamp
2. HOW TO GET THE BEST VIDEO RESOLUTION FOR YOUR GAME (but might player slower
In-Game Settings:
Vertical Sync ON
Display Size 1920 x 1080 (my laptop can go much higher than this but then the GUI gets too small to read)
3D Model Quality BEST
3D Texture Quality BEST
Anti Alias ON
Tree Detail HIGH
Shaders OFF
Next go to the root installation file and find the text file 'display size.txt'. Open it and change the values to match your Display Size and screen refresh rate.
1920 1080 60
FINAL NOTE: If I have made any errors in the above or if you have better settings, please correct or amend my suggestions.
Carpe vitam.
I’m on an iMac, and after a lot of testing these are the settings that ended up working best for me in CMx2:
• Shaders OFF
• Shadows OFF (biggest performance saver for me)
• Tree detail set to LOW
• Terrain/texture settings reduced a bit from max
• Basically aiming for stability over eye-candy, especially when planning waypoints or in heavy maps.
Before this I was getting freezes and slowdowns, but these settings made the game much smoother and more reliable. Not the prettiest setup, but definitely the most playable on my Mac.

wish someone would add a Real-shade guide on here for the CM series. I run it and it seriously improves the visuals and adds atmosphere to the battles. Alas i just fumble my way through it rather than knowing exactly what i should set but the battles look so much better. I heartily recommend all to try it. I have a couple of Normandy pre-sets which i grabbed a long while back from a BFC thread, if anyone wants them just shout. There are also a couple of vids on youtube showcasing real-shade in CM but info is generally scarce.
