RULES The map is divided into 36 provinces, grouped into 12 regions of three provinces each (indicated by the colour on the province names) Players have 15 turns to consolidate as large a kingdom or empire as they can from their initial scattered possessions while playing with a large variety of medieval armies. Basic concept is simple: 1. At start each player picks a faction colour. I then assign provinces to each faction by random draw. Each player then in turn places their capital into a province of their choice. 2. Each faction gets ONE attack per turn and fight each other to consolidate their kingdoms -- controlling the three provinces in a region adds TWO extra points to their score. 3. In TURN 1, the attack orders sequence is determined by random draw -- from TURN 2 onwards, the attack orders sequence is determined by the best battle result % differential each faction scores in the previous turn. SET UP With a campaign of FIVE factions/players, each faction get a random draw of SIX provinces. The leftover SIX provinces are designated as NEUTRAL or Minor States provinces (see: Neutral Provinces) Players then secretly let the DM know where they will place their Capitals. (as DM I will lock in my choice first, before the other factions make their placements) ATTACKS & ARMIES Every TURN each faction gets to launch ONE attack. A faction can attack any enemy or neutral province that is adjacent to a friendly-controlled province or across a sea zone if a FLEET is available. You may not attack from a province that is already under attack by another faction. You may attack into a province from which an attack into a different province has been launched. They can also attack across sea zones (see: Seaborne Attacks) They can also attack across CROSSING POINTS (see between Morocco & Granada or between Ireland, Scotland and England in map above) ARMIES used in the battles are determined by the TURN TRACK -- which is 15 turns divided into FIVE eras of 3 turns each, each era covering roughly a century. The attacking player will select an army geographically appropriate for the province attacking from... and the defender will select an appropriate army from the province being attacked. Both armies will have to be from the time period on the Turn Track of the current turn. The ATTACKER declares the attack and selects his army from the province he is attacking from appropriate to the time period on the Turn Track. The DEFENDER then selects his army from the province he is defending, appropriate to the time period on the Turn Track. The DEFENDER then sets up the battle. BATTLES are all Medium, Open Battle. Map Type is by default "Pot Luck" -- or can be arranged between the players to fit the terrain of the province being contested. Also, if a map is totally unplayable, players can arrange a re-start by mutual agreement -- I will rely on the FGM's honour and sportsmanship to sort it out amicably. ATTACKING A NEUTRAL PROVINCE works a little differently. The ATTACKER declares the attack and selects and army from the province he is attacking from. A DEFENDER is then chosen amongst the other faction players (by DM draw or volunteering) who then choses an appropriate defending army. The DEFENDER must play the battle with an AUTOFILL force selection. Battle parameters are the same as above. BATTLE RESULTS Attacker Major or Minor Victory -- Province is captured -- attacker earns 1 Bonus Point. Attacker Minor Defeat -- attack is repulsed Attacker Major Defeat -- attack is repulsed -- defender earns 1 Bonus Point (bonus points are not awarded for defending Neutral Provinces) If a battle times out with no side being routed, then the battle is a Draw and the attacker has the option to withdraw or continue the battle in the next turn using the same armies. (even if the Turn Track has advanced to a new era) Victory Level Definitions A Major Victory is when you win by routing the enemy with between 40% to 59% casualties and a minimum +25% margin. A Minor Victory is when you win by routing the enemy with 60%+ casualties, with any % margin. However, if you adjust the above winning score down to 59% and the difference is still +25%, it's upgraded to a Major Victory. If a battle times out with no side being routed, then the battle is a Draw and the attacker has the option to withdraw or continue the battle for ONE more turn using the same armies. (even if the Turn Track has advanced to a new era). BONUS POINTS Bonus Points are very important in this campaign, as they allow you to do additional things over and above the ONE regular attack per turn. One Bonus Point each is earned for: 1. Capturing a Province (either enemy or neutral) 2. A Defensive Major Victory 4. Destruction of an Enemy Fleet (see Naval Combat) 5. TWO Bonus Points for capturing an enemy Capital Province A faction can earn several Bonus Points per turn, but there is a maximum limit of FOUR Bonus Points...

@rico It was a record, even for your knights (Rico fields the most cavalier bunch who just love to go off on a jaunt, maybe just to the nearest pub). My right flank just got it done without most of my knights. A nice short battle but when my knights just fled, I was gutted

Looking good in PALESTINE. We're in an excellent defensive position, I couldn't have built a better map. Swamp on the flank, enclosures in the centre and other flank...

Not so good in HUNGARY. I might just lose early on. However, if I get a few rallies, I might start to swing it back my way. Fingers crossed!

@chiquichops I regret losing my light cav behind that swamp, but so far the ghilman seem unfazed by all your crossbow fire, so hope remains in Palestine that it's not a total wipe.

Lithuania is a knife edge right now. You still have lots of arrows to fire and my units keep getting smaller. Hope to wrap up your left flank cav soon though and bring that whole squadron into play against the infantry.

So. Reporting back on my battles-

PALESTINE defended successfully 42-28 for the Crusader army. I was gifted an entrenched position that would've challenged any army.

HUNGARY falls to my Lithuanians with a 64-46 victory. My storm of arrows carried the day against determined cavalry charges that just couldn't break enough units. I got a little lucky on morale checks too, I feel.

Thanks @vuk-teble for a couple of good fights. Green stays lucky although I feel it was more of a defensive turn.

@chiquichops Palestine was mostly a delaying tactic and once I saw the map I didn't expect much more than what I got out of it which was delaying you from taking another 3 province region, but I don't think you got your casualties right? (42-28 wouldn't be a win, we'd still be playing.)

Hungary though, that was a jewel in the crown, linchpin of my eastern strategy! We will be back. I blame myself for that loss though, charging out of a built up area with cav and nowhere to retreat. Should have stayed inside for a possible future flank and moved the supporting knights further away toward what remained of the rest of my force. I didn't get a single rally this match on a lot of above average+ units, that in the end was the real problem, I was just too whittled down to carry on.

Bohemia's invasion of Poland has resulted in a 0-0 draw. Neither side wished to send its pixel warriors to certain slaughter against strong defensive positions. Poland remains Polish!

Battle for POLAND ends in a Draw ... POLAND stays with the WHITE Empire.

The action so far has been concentrated mostly in the east of the map, with western Europe blissfully peaceful (except for Spain) ... I guess it's not going to last. 😀

Wallachia: Vuk's Hungaro-Serbs defeated Cargol's Rus-Cuman confederation, 29%-56%.

The Hungarian knights outclassed the Druzhina and I was able to use my Serbs, Nomads and Hungarian nobles with light cav support dealt with the Cumans. I mostly succeeded in staying away from his armored spearmen and on the right flank managed to see off his irregulars, some spearmen, and mixed light infantry and get my archers safe into rough terrain before his druzhina returned from their pursuit. Fun match!

@rico what was the % victory in Palestine for Chiquichops? I think he just pipped me to the post. I'll be beating myself up over my second to last turn. I attacked a unit of druzhina in the wrong order and they ran off instead of getting flanked and routed. Could have 29-30% if I'd attacked with light cav first.
