FOG Medieval: The Conquests of Timur - Cargol vs Rico

The first crazy, swirling Mongol cavalry battle has been concluded  -- a decisive 44-14 = +30% victory for Khan @cargol 's forces against the Chagatai Mongols  -- the Timurids capture TASHKENT.

The Golden Horde Mongols up north are giving the Timurids a harder time -- this one might go all the way to a very narrow win either way. 

That's a good result against the Mongols! Did I mention how much I hate horse archers?

LOL -- the Timurids are basically Mongols as well ... so pretty even match up. 

Bukhara attack is not developing well it seems. Still, a minor loss will retain the  initiative point for the Timurids.

Alas, no ... this one works like the Roman Civil War & the Normans in Italy campaigns ...

ATTACKS

Each faction gets ONE attack per IP.

TIMURIDS always go first in declaring attacks.

A faction can attack an enemy province that is adjacent to a friendly-controlled province.

You may not attack from a province that is already under attack. 

You may attack into a province from which an attack into a different province has been launched.

BATTLES

All FOG: Medieval battles are Medium Open Battles on appropriate Middle East, Desert, Steppe or Mediterranean maps.

Any winning percentage difference in casualties inflicted wins the battle or captures the province if attacking.

The winner of a battle is awarded the IP.

Draws: In the unlikely event that a battle ends with identical loss percentages, the battle continues in the next turn and the IP is forfeit for that turn.

The battle vs the Golden Horde ended in a defeat for the Timurids -- the the Golden Horde Tatars remain unpacified.

So, a mixed bag -- but capturing Tashkent is a good start for Khan @cargol .

TURN 2

Turns out I misread my notes and left something out -- the Timurids actually get TWO guaranteed IP's for the first two turns. My bad. 

The Golden Horde die roll is a 2 -- so no activity from their direction.

So, @cargol now gets TWO attacks to further expand his empire!  Where will you ride to next? 

Last turn was partially successful. Although the Timurids managed to capture Tashkent and cover half of our core territories, the attack to subjugate the Golden

Horde failed.  I don't intend to waste more time (and IPs) on these nomads at the moment. We will deal with them when time is right 🙂

It's time to conquer what was known as Khorasan province and open the road towards Delhi and Baghdad. I am attacking Isfahan from Bukhara and Kandahar

from Samarkand.

2nd round is over. The Timurids were easily repulsed in Kandahar, but  managed  to capture Isfahan with  a  60 vs 58 victory after a nail-biting battle.  

The road to middle East is open and that's where we are going to. 

I am attacking Baghdad from Isfahan.

On to Turn 3.

@cargol 's Timurids have 1 IP -- their opponents have 1 IP.

In addition: The Golden Horde roll was a 7 -- so they are attacking into TASHKENT.

The Timurids are advancing on BAGHDAD.

Kandahar attacks SAMARKAND.

A nice little snapshot from the Golden Horde incursion into Tashkent... while the cavalry are bashing each others' heads in on the my left, the foot archers are having their own little scrap over control of a small hill on the right.

The Tartars seem to have access to spear/crossbow units ... probably Genoese mercenaries. 😉 

Not a good turn for the imperial ambitions of Khan @cargol  -- while managing to defeat the incursion of Tartars of the Golden Horde at TASHKENT, the Timurid attack on BAGHDAD was repelled and the Islamic Persian attack captured the Timurid capital, SAMARKAND.

TURN 4

This turn both sides have ONE attack each -- as usual the Timurids go first.

(The Golden Horde have been pacified for one turn at least)

I'm guessing @cargol you'll want to use your attack to recapture SAMARKAND? 

Indeed! We need to take back what is rightfully ours!

Turns with you  -- not getting email notifications for turns at the moment. 🙄 

We concluded Turn 4 a little while back -- catching up only now, it's been a crazy work week or so for me.

Things not working out for Khan of Khans @cargol with two defeats in Turn 4 against the Islamic Persians in another pair of crazy cavalry battles.

The Timurid attempt to recapture SAMARKHAND was repulsed and the Persians recaptured ISFAHAN.

TURN 5

The Persian armies now march north and north-east to attempt the capture of the Timurid's last two remaining strongholds: BUKHARA and TASHKENT.

History has certainly been turned on its head -- I'm quite amazed so many of these whirlwind cavalry battles are going my way.
