@chiquichops and I have been playing through a one vs one Wars of the Roses campaign (keeping track via email while the site was down) -- it's been a lot of fun and we've just concluded Turn 6 ... moving on to Turn 7 of 8, with the scores even at 11 a piece.

(We unfortunately also lost the simple rule set with the FGM crash, so are playing this from memory 🤪 )

I am playing Lancastrians who hold the crown and @chiquichops the Yorkists who are the throne challengers. Regions and cities are drawn randomly at start -- the Lancastrians got London and York, the Yorkists Coventry and Calais. I subsequently lost York and haven't managed to get it back. 🤨

The Grey counters are neutral/non-commital regions whose lords we can sway to our cause by spending Prestige Points earned with Major Victories or capturing regions/cities.

The Scots have used the distraction caused by this civil war to invade the north and are currently in control of Cumbria and Northumbria.

Last turn the French also got in on the action and attacked Calais, the last English hold out on the continent, but were beaten back by the garrison.

The Lancastrians had two attacks this turn and captured Essex, but were decisively defeated in Leicester.

TURN 7

This is going down to the wire -- 11 points each and we have only lost ONE leader so far in entire campaign. (battles are "Remove the head" battles, so if the CiC is killed, the battle is lost) The Lancastrian King has to lead one of his armies into battle, so if he dies, the throne passes over to next in line Yorkist... so far we've been extremely lucky -- in the previous play of a simpler version of this, we had an absolute bloddbath of princes of the realm...lol)

Throne challengers always go first.

More trouble in the north -- the Scots/French die roll is a 2 and the Scots invade Lancaster.

Both sides have ONE Initiative point - so each side gets one attack. Yorkists have ONE Prestige Point. Lancastrians have TWO Prestige Points.

@chiquichops  -- you're up with your Prestige Point action.

I have run a multi-player WOTR campaign a few times over the years using Avalon Hill's Kingmaker board game as a background and a system for converting KM strengths to miniatures. Some time ago I modified the existing Vasal Mod for that purpose. Lots of fun.

TURN 7 under way.

@chiquichops has managed to sway East Anglia over to the Yorkist cause by spending his Prestige Points.

I have managed to sway Caernarvon over to the Lancastrian side by doing the same.

Scores even again at 12 each.

Yorkists attack again in South Yorkshire to keep Lancastrians away from York.

Lancastrians will attack those pesky invading Scots in Lancaster --  @chiquichops will command the Scots in the FOG battle.

I think we may be heading for stalemate in this edition of the campaign...

@kandu  -- that does sound like fun -- I abstracted all the dynastic and feudal allegiances for this campaign -- that stuff does my head in. LOL

TURN 7 ends with status quo pretty much in place.

A bloody Minor Victory for the Lancastrians repels the Scots out of Lancaster.

A Minor Defeat for the Yorkists in South Yorkshire results in their withdrawal, but they retain their initiative point.

War Of Roses XXL 07 C

We move on to the final TURN 8 -- with honours still even at 12 points a piece, but Lancastrians still hold on to the crown, so at this point a Minor Victory for them.

French/Scots die roll is a 3 ... so activity on those fronts.

No Prestige Points for either side to use.

Both sides have one Initiative Point to use for an attack.

@chiquichops -- you're up first with your attack.

Interesting! Could that campaign be adapted to fight out the battles in FoG2:Medieval?

Unfortunately not because all conversion parameters are tied to the Kingmaker cards.

South Yorkshire again, from York. It's my last effort to take a region by force. If I could, I'd try for a city but there's nowhere vulnerable. A face-saving victory is all I can hope for. I'll set up this afternoon

But it worked to convert it to battles with miniatures?

Absolutely. I wrote my own rules system that incorporated all the Avalon Hill Kingmaker game rules with three different conversion systems. Why three? To be able to match Kingmaker total faction strengths to my collection of (1000 or so) 15mm figures. If you PM me your email address I can email you a copy of my rules... if you like.

Here we go, our last two battles -- looks like we've fought ourselves into a bit of a stalemate, with only winners so far the Scots.

Yorkist attack South Yorkshire again -- my Lancastrian King will command his army in this one.

The Lancastrian attack will go into Sussex -- let's secure the south and maybe get another point. 😀

If my King dies in this last battle, the whole thing will flip over to a Minor Victory for @chiquichops. 😳

Ha -- after virtually no leader casualties this whole campaign, it's been a bloodbath in this last turn.

My Lancastrians had their King killed in this round's battle for South Yorkshire, which region is lost to the Yorkists.

@chiquichops lost his general killed in the battle for Sussex, which fell to the Lancastrians.

The upshot is that the Crown passes to the Yorkists in this final turn and, with the points tied at 12 -12, this means the Yorkists have snatched a Minor Victory in this last turn!

This has been a blast -- this simple campaign really worked well, even if @chiquichops and I fought each other into virtual stalemate (and we left the Scots too much leeway to get up to way too much mischief up north 😆 )

Great campaign @rico  . Thank you very much for running it. It might have looked like a stalemete, indeed the middle of the campaign did seem like it might start to bog down a little, but the Scots rampaging in the North threw a spanner in the works and the French kept it interesting too.

Those last two battles were great, we really put everything into it, very tense. My attack on Yorkshire was going well, I can't believe my left held up against such relentless archery without crumbling, but on its own wouldn't have been enough to scrape a minor, killing my uncle Roger was the only way. (I think he was called Roger!)

Thanks again!
