Another way to do it is that if the first battle for the province ends in a MINOR Offensive of Defensive Victory, the province becomes CONTESTED.
Battle continues in the province for the next two turn until either:
An Attacker Major Victory - results in capture of the province.
A Defender Major Victory - results in repulse and the province from which he attacked is disrupted and can't be used to attack from again for one turn, and can only be defended with an autofill army if attacked.
Or one side wins "two best out of three" Minor Victories -- which either ends in repulse or capture of the province.
A DRAW would just extend the whole process one more turn.
(kind of simulates in getting bogged down in an inconclusive longer war)
A further refinement to the CONTESTED battles could be:
After the first battle, the side that suffered the Minor Defeat, fights the second battle with AUTO FILL army.
After the second battle, if score is 1 -1, then BOTH armies fight with AUTO FILL armies.
WITHDRAWAL
At any time the attacker can WITHDRAW from the Province during the Attack Declaration Phase and forfeit his attack for that Turn.
(he could launch another attack if he has enough Bonus Points to hand)
Question: do we keep same army selections over the (up to 3) Contested battles?
Too complicated? Might suit a campaign better with more turns?

@chiquichops maybe a better solution is a draw or minor victory by a defender results in a disordered province where the following turn its an auto fill army for that province, even though they hang on to it.
To inventivize defenders to go for the major victory.
Though, maybe that leads to further defensive play by the defender the following turn so maybe if a province suffers two defensive draws or minor victories it goes into rebellion and becomes a neutral province.
As a 2 time defender of Livonia with a Baltic tribes force against Knights and Dismounted Knights I don't favor this solution. Without being able to use defensive tactics and positions Livonia could not defend at all. (if Cargol catches me without any woods, it's all over:)
Why should defenders have to go for a major victory in all cases?

It's not too complicated.
If you're simulating a continuing battle in a province then keeping the same armies makes sense.
Why penalize the attacker for withdrawing? Not saying I'm against it but just wondering about the need or what it adds.

Good point on the Attacker withdrawing ... maybe just limit it that he can't re-attack same province in same turn.

I like the ideas. However, for a short simple campaign like this, I think a small points advantage for the attacker would be ok.

What size of an advantage? Even 25 pts. can make a big difference in a flank or rear.
Let's keep it as is for one more turn... just to see if this one was a statistical anomaly 😎 ... we can do rule changes after that if the trend continues.
Although I do like the idea of importing this one from Reconquista campaign:
A Defender Major Victory - results in repulse and the province from which he attacked is disrupted and can't be used to attack from again for one turn, and can only be defended with an autofill army if attacked.

@rico It's probably the best option because it encourages the defender to come out to fight
Okay, let's go with that option added in:
A Defender Major Victory - results in repulse and the province from which he attacked is disrupted and can't be used to attack from again for one turn, and can only be defended with an autofill army if attacked.
Need to wait for @cargol & @otosan to get back ... seems @vuk-teble is also off-line due to tech difficulties.

@rico Sounds good to me. Still waiting on my computer repair here.
I suppose you favor this change for game play reasons. I'm a bit against it because it takes away the natural advantage of defending. Since the majority is for it, let's give it a try.
41-15 victory in GRANADA for the Castilian/Leonese. We sweated blood for this one. Chasing down the light horse was like herding cats, then an assault on a hilltop position at the back of the map was touch and go for a while and I thought the best we'd pull off would be a draw. Thanks for a good fight @cargol

GREEN captures GRANADA with a 41 - 15 = +26% Major Victory.
That concludes Turn 5 with the GREEN Empire dominating!
